This is a yummy chutney, makes a great combination along with Coconut chutney as a side dish for Idlis, Dosais and Appams.
Hot and soft idlis with coconut chutney and this tomato chutney, you will for sure end up eating more than you ever would.
Atop the chutney with a spoon of gingelly oil to enhance the flavor and fragrance!
Ingredients
Tomato – 2 big
Onion – 1 big
Red Chillies – 3-4 or as per your taste
Urad dal – 1 tablespoon (the more this dal, the tastier it is… but don’t over do it)
Coconut – 2 2 inch pieces
Tamarind – very little
Salt – as needed
Oil – as needed
Method
- Heat oil in a kadai, splutter urad dal and red chillies till dal turns golden brown.
- Sauté the chopped onion with it until the onion pieces become see through.
- Add tomatoes and salt and cook they turn almost mushy.
- Now add the coconut pieces and tamarind, sauté it till the tomatoes become mushy and all the contents are blended well.
- Remove from the flame, keep it aside for cooling.
- Grind the mixture, yummy tomato chutney is ready.
Note: 1. While cooking tomatoes, you can a few curry leaves or strands of coriander leaves also to give a different taste and make it healthier.
- You can even few vallarai keerai leaves, a brain enhancer.
