Green gram Gravy Recipe – Paasi/Pachai payaru Masiyal
This is a Coimbatore special one. A simple recipe that mixes that we want to have in a healthy food, especially with the criteria by using less oil yet a tasty dish. A sure shot with the kids when mixed with hot rice and ghee. The aroma and the taste will make the kids as much of quantity of green gram dal (paasi /pachai payaru) as you would want them to consume.
Here goes the recipe.
Ingredients
Green gram dal – 1 cup
Garlic – 10 pods
Turmeric powder – ½ teaspoon
Jeera/Cumin seeds – 2 teaspoons
Coriander seeds – 2 teaspoons (this can be a little lesser than the jeera seeds)
Onion (small) – 10-15 shallots
Green chilli – 2 or 3 (as per your taste)
Salt- as needed
Oil – for tampering
Method
- Pressure cook green gram dal with turmeric powder and garlic. It must be well cooked to be able to be mashed. Mash the cooked dal.
- Grind the coriander seeds and jeera seeds, coarsely and keep it aside.
- Heat oil in a kadai, add finely chopped shallots and green chillies and cook them until the onion is well cooked and appear translucent.
- Add the ground powder and cook till the raw smell goes off.
- Now, add the cooked dal and salt. Cook them all for 5- 10 minutes.
- The tasty mashed Dal Gravy recipe is ready.
PS: 1. Use little or just the required amount of water while cooking the green gram, so that the nutrients are wasted when we drain the water.
- You can also tamper with mustard seeds and curry leaves before cooking onions and chillies.Using sprouted green gram would be great.
