Paneer Roti Roll
This is a very, very tasty spicy masala-filled recipe. But I must admit this takes a long time to prepare and cook, but it is all worth is, such is the taste and more so, this one being a one-dish tasty and healthy meal makes it a lot more preferable on a weekend dinner or when you arrange for your kids birthday party.
For kids, you can reduce the number of chillies and/or the amount of chilli powder.
The following measurements can be good enough for 13-15 rolls.
Paneer – 2 packets
Maida – 400 gms
Onion – 6-7 medium sized
Tomato – 3-4 medium sized
Green Chilli – 3-4
Garlic – 15 pods
Ginger – 2 inch piece
Chilli powder – 1-2 teaspoon
Turmeric powder – little
Pepper seeds – 1 teaspoon
Jeera /Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
Lemon – half
Chaat powder – a few teaspoons
Salt – to taste
Oil – as needed
Butter – 1 packet
Method:
- Knead maida for rotis with little oil, a little milk and water. Keep it aside.
- Chop 5-6 onions, tomatoes, chillies. Heat oil in kadai, splutter pepper and jeera, then add onion and green chillies.
- When the onion is halfway cooked, add garlic pods (need not peel the skin) and chopped ginger. Sauté this composition till the onion turns transparent. Now, add tomatoes.
- Cook until the tomatoes become mushy.P
- Grind them all into a fine paste after they cool down.
- Now again heat oil in kadai and add the ground paste, turmeric powder, chilli powder and salt.
- Allow it to cook until the raw smell goes and nice aroma emanates. Now add cubed paneer pieces and cook for a few more minutes till paneer and masala are cooked and have blended well.
- The paneer masala is ready to get stuffed.
- Roll out the kneaded dough and cook rotis as you would do normally. Use butter instead of oil using for better taste.
- Chop the remaining onions thin and lengthwise, chop green chillies into two and slit them into thinner pieces. Keep them aside
- Now in the roti, keep the paneer masala lengthwise, throw in a little chopped onion and green chilli pieces, squeeze a drop of lemon juice, sprinkle a pinch of chat powder.
- Roll the roti and wrap it with a tissue paper. Yummy, spicy paneer roti roll
